School Council

The role of the School Council is to endorse the School Development Plan

The functions of a non-incorporated Council are to:

Take part in:

  • Establishing and reviewing from time to time, the school’s learning outcomes, priorities and general policy directions
  • The planning of financial arrangements necessary to fund those objectives, priorities and directions
  • Evaluating the school’s performance in relation to the achievement of outcomes and
  • Formulating codes of conduct for students at the school
  • Determine, in consultation with students, their parents and staff a dress code for students when they are attending or representing the school
  • Promote the school in the community


  • Charges and contributions for the provision of certain materials, services and facilities
  • Extra cost optional components of educational programs
  • Items to be supplied by a student for personal use in an educational program and
  • Any agreements or arrangements for advertising or sponsorship in relation to school.

Provide advice to the principal of the school on:

  • Membership of The School Council is made up of 5 parent representatives and 4 teachers, including the Principal.  One of the parent representatives are elected by the P & C Association and the other three members are nominated from the wider school community.

Jessica Gorman – Parent Member (P & C President)
Jessica joined the School Council in 2019 as a Parent Representative. Jessica has degrees in Public Health and Psychology, and currently works as a Clinical Psychologist Registrar. She is passionate about mental health, child development, and family well-being. She is very interested in ways we can facilitate the further development and improvement of our school and promote the school within the community.
Jessica has two children at KPS, in Kindy and Year 3.

Raylene Somers – Community Member
Raylene joined the Kewdale school council as a Grandparent representative in 2021. Raylene’s favourite and (only) grandson is in Year One at Kewdale Primary School. She has been a member of the P & C since 2019 and has been involved with various fundraisers. She is also a member of the school’s Mental Health Team. Raylene is a counsellor at Anglicare WA. She believes that emotional intelligence is one of the most important skills we can teach children, as self-regulation and naming feelings are invaluable life skills. Raylene became involved with Kewdale Primary School because she believes in the value of the community supporting children.

Caz Fiegert – Staff Member
Caz has been the Manager Corporate Service at  Kewdale Primary School since 2005.  Caz has lived in the Shire of Belmont for over 30 years, she is passionate about our school and the local community. Caz provides the schools financial information to the School Council and has sound knowledge of school’s processes. As a member of the School Council she enjoys working with fellow members to drive change and providing our students with the best possible educational outcomes.
